No practices are mandatory, however the more your swimmer goes to, the faster they will improve. All practices are open to all swimmers.
Our youngest developmental group. Usually ages 10 and under but is based on ability. These swimmers come in having trouble getting across the pool and we work on teaching the basics of the four strokes.
Our middle developmental group. Usually ages 10-13, but is based on ability. These swimmers come in knowing the basics of the four strokes and we begin to teach more advanced parts of the stroke and introduce things like flip turns, relay starts, and endurance training.
Our most advanced group. Usually ages 13 and up, but is based on ability. These swimmers come in knowing the four strokes well. We work on perfecting all parts of their races and building things like strength and endurance.
Coaches have the sole power to place and move swimmers into practice groups. They always will have a reason for it and it is always for the benefit of the swimmer regardless of age.
Special Practice Days
Full Team Practices
These practices will be hosted at Waterworks at the normal morning practice time and we expect the full team to be there. These will be days such as Time Trials, Team Pictures, and the last Fun Friday.
Every Tuesday evening practice the board will provide a treat after practice.
Every Wednesday morning practice the board will provide waffles after practice. Make sure you bring fun toppings!
Every Thursday, instead of the normal dynamic stretching before practice, the swimmers will do a short yoga progression led by the coaches.
Every Friday, at the end of practice there will be some sort of fun game in and out of the water ranging from raft relays, water polo, sharks and minnows, and even going down the slides.
Time Trials and Hot Chocolate
The first Friday of the season will be an inter-squad time trial meet. Swimmers will swim one event for each stroke. This will let the kids practice their races before the first meet and allow the coaches to collect times from the swimmers for writing lineups. We will need at least 6 parents to help time the events at the practice. It's very easy and necessary to make the practice run smoothly.
After the time trials, hot chocolate will be provided for the swimmers. The board does this because sometimes at that time fo the year it can still be chilly.
The last practice will be half a day in the water and the second half will be saved for the swimmers to make posters for the championship meet the next day. Donuts and chocolate milk will be provided.
